The Driver group strives to foster and maintain an environment where everyone—regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, religion, age, ability, or socioeconomic status—is welcomed, valued, and respected. Each individual is valued for their different perspectives, respect is given to each individual’s cultural norms, and we recognize that each individual can contribute something unique that will enable the success of everyone in the Driver group. To cultivate a welcoming culture, to promote professional development, each member will listen to each other and support each other with compassion, dignity, and respect. Each individual’s growth will be promoted by everyone in the group through collaboration, vigorous—yet respectful—dialogue, and constructive criticism. Each group member is expected to conduct themselves with professionalism, sensitivity, and kindness to sustain an inclusive and supportive atmosphere where group members at all levels have the best opportunity to excel. In addition to valuing quality science, the Driver group prizes teaching, mentoring and outreach activities. The Driver group endeavors to learn, grow, and encourage each other to become not only the next generation of successful scientists, but also leaders in our community.
